Halloween Disc-A-Day: Day 13 Satan’s Little Helper

This project is an attempt to help me get dvds that for one reason or another I’ve never seen off of my shelf and give them a watch.  Today’s pick is Satan’s Little Helper.

IMDb: Satan’s Little Helper (6 May 2004 (USA))
A naive young boy unknowingly becomes the pawn of a serial killer.

This is a good example of low budget horror done well.  The setting of regular no-thrills Halloween is perfect.  It’s shitty rubber masks used properly.  The tension doesn’t come from the actual image of the mask, but from the idea of the hidden identity.  The only actor you would recognize from the movie is Amanda Plummer.  She comes across as incredibly likable as the mom character and is a hell of a good sport when you look at what she had to put up with here.  The director has done some memorable stuff like Blue Sunshine and Squirm along with Neverending Story III which is not so good.  It’s a shame that I didn’t watch this on Halloween.  It would be a good choice for that, but it’s the luck of the draw.  Next up is Santos Contras Hombres Infernales (assuming it has subtitles).

While you’re waiting, check out our discusion of the Neverending Story trilogy on Motion Picture Meltdown.
