This project is an attempt to help me get dvds that for one reason or another I’ve never seen off of my shelf and give them a watch. Today’s pick is Mortuary.
IMDb: Mortuary (2005 (Australia))
A family moves to a small town in California where they plan on starting a new life while running a long-abandoned funeral home. The locals fear the place, which is suspected to be on haunted ground.
For me, Tobe Hooper’s filmography is very hit-and-miss and I think you can find that same pattern within some of his individual movies. The separate pieces work fairly well for the most part. The cast and story itself are alright, but they are sabotaged at every turn by how bad the digital effects are. It’s difficult to stay onboard when everything looks drastically out of place. If you can look past that, go for it. It’s still kind of middle of the road, but honestly it did slightly exceed my expectations for a Tobe Hooper film.
