This project is an attempt to help me get dvds that for one reason or another I’ve never seen off of my shelf and give them a watch. Today’s pick is Wedding Slashers.
IMDb: Wedding Slashers (Video 21 November 2006)
Jenna is a young woman that has lost every man she loved since she was very young. Now she has encountered Alex and they decide to move in together and get married. She has told him that …
This is one of the few blatant mockbusters that I own, of course referencing Wedding Crashers in the title and even the tagline, “This is one wedding you won’t want to crash.” Like its namesake, it’s a comedy. I didn’t realize it until a few minutes in when the main character says ‘ascared’, is corrected, then goes back into saying it. I don’t find anything in here particularly funny except for a dialogue exchange about Sigourney Weaver teaching apes to talk and then the bible. Out of context that sounds insane and in context of the film it totally doesn’t fit. Maybe that’s why it worked for me. Overall the content of the movie feels too dark to support the weak comedy provided. For an audience to spring back from subjects like rape and incest, that comedy has to be pretty goddamned funny and it’s more than this movie can deliver. There is a Richard Lynch cameo. He’s as creepy as ever, so I guess it has that going for it. Another notable cameo is a giant foam middle finger in the precredits scene that takes place 40 years ago.
