Halloween Disc-A-Day: Day 23 Heartstopper

This project is an attempt to help me get dvds that for one reason or another I’ve never seen off of my shelf and give them a watch.  Today’s pick is Heartstopper.

IMDb: Heartstopper (31 October 2006)
Two hospitalized young people discover that things can get even worse when the dilapidated institution is stranded by a severe storm and a maniac stalks the corridors butchering the patients and staff.

Like Shocker and Fallen, this movie gets started after the execution of the villain who later returns from the dead.  Those are both better examples, but of course those are much higher budget.  On it’s own merits, half the movie is ok.  I don’t mean the movie drops off or picks up at some point.  I mean half of the equation of the movie.  On one side, there is are the victims/protagonists.  I think given there resources they are about as good as you could expect.  On the other side, we have the villain who I hate and not in the intended way.  He irritates the fuck out of me with every line of dialogue.  He wants to possess the girl, but we don’t know why.  Normally, that wouldn’t be an issue but if the motherfucker won’t stop talking he might as well tell us what’s happening and the reason behind it.  This also keeps with the unintended theme of the recognizable sheriff cameo; this time by Robert Englund.

Check out the Motion Picture Meltdown episode on Robert Englund’s most famous role in A Nightmare on Elm Street as well as episodes on Shocker and Fallen.
