This project is an attempt to help me get dvds that for one reason or another I’ve never seen off of my shelf and give them a watch. Today’s pick is Undead.
IMDb: Undead (4 September 2003)
A quaint Australian fishing village is overcome by meteorites that turn its residents into the ravenous undead, leaving a small group of those unharmed to find a way out.
Undead is an odd film directed by The Spierig Brothers who directed Daybreakers. The acting is the typical unhinged style that you ofter see in low budget Australian movies. That might be a little of an unfair statement. Any country’s low budget cinema would make its entire population look insane, but that’s all that I’ve seen from Australia so I have nothing else to go on. The effects vary. There are some funny, gooey practical effects. The majority of the cgi is really rough, but they go so far over the top into borderline absurdist imagery that I’m willing to let it slide. I want to be shown something I haven’t seen before. It’s one of the things that I look for in movies and this delivers on that.
I’m in the home stretch now. Come back tomorrow and in the meantime, check out the Motion Picture Meltdown episode on Undead from before I was on the show.
