Halloween Disc-A-Day 2017: Day 5 Bottom Feeder

Continuing from last year, this project is an attempt to help me get dvds that for one reason or another I’ve never seen off of my shelf and give them a watch.  For today, I watched Bottom Feeder.

IMDb: Bottom Feeder (3 April 2007)
A group of utility workers are trapped in a series of tunnels which, unfortunately, contain a scientist mutated by his own creation. The creature feeds instantly on a rat, becoming what it has eaten.

This is better than I expected.  It’s a fairly straight forward monster movie.  Most of the movie I’m on board with.  It’s the beginning and end that seem off.  The start is rough because they forcefully inject the scientist with his experimental drug after he gave them the full directions and warning.  What if it just killed him?  They want the drug.  Wouldn’t it be better if he had more than one shot at it working?  The missing logic bothers me, but I guess it seems necessary to do something ridiculous to set things going.  From there, business picked up and I was able to get into it.  The scientist has turned into a hunchback rat man, Tom Sizemore’s crew isn’t that bad, and there’s a fake Jamaican (Jakacian) hobo.  The high point is a nurse Bruce Lee in a knife fight vs monster fu fight.  All positive things.  They lose me a little with the end though.  It’s too much of a double fuck you.  I’m fine with a movie ends on a sudden down note, but when they tack on another scene so they can do it again it just comes across the wrong way.  I think the idea is to add to the surpise but it’s like kicking the viewer when they’re down.  Outside of those complaints, I had a good enough time with it.

If you enjoyed this, come back tomorrow for another of these dumb things.  In the meantime, listen to the Motion Picture Meltdown episode on The Relic to hear us talk shit on Tom Sizemore.
