Halloween Disc-A-Day 2017: Day 13 – Dead Meat

Continuing from last year, this project is an attempt to help me get dvds that for one reason or another I’ve never seen off of my shelf and give them a watch.  I just watched Dead Meat.

IMDb: Dead Meat (December 2004 Ireland)
An infection spreads from slaughtered animals to humans, which causes the dead to rise and feed on the living.

This is the first movie that I’ve written about this month that I am solidly positive about and would recommend to fans of horror.  It’s an Irish movie and you’re going to need subtitles by about half way through when a colorful character named Cathal Chuent shows up with his wife. The two of them are extremely difficult to understand except when they are saying “fuck off.”  The story is nothing out of the ordinary for a zombie movie, but I liked the characters, it’s fun, well-paced, and they found ways to be creative within that general framework.  It’s written and directed by Conor McMahon.  I’ve seen one of his more recent films, Stitches, and the two of them make me think I should check out more of his work.  I just added his most recent feature, From The Dark, to my Amazon Prime watchlist since it’s it available for free and I’ll be watching it soon.

Check back tomorrow to read about whatever I happen to grab from the dvd pile next.  In the meantime, listen to Motion Picture Meltdown’s episode on Grabbers for more Irish film discussion.
