Halloween Disc-A-Day 2017: Day 15 – Brutal

Continuing from last year, this project is an attempt to help me get dvds that for one reason or another I’ve never seen off of my shelf and give them a watch.  Today I watched Brutal.

IMDb: Brutal (Video 10 July 2007)
A young sheriff’s deputy, Zoe Adams, investigates a series of murders and soon realizes a serial killer is on the loose. As she and her boss, sheriff Jimmy Fleck, feel the pressure of finding the killer, their love affair begins to falter. Meanwhile, Zoe teams up with the autistic bloodhound trainer, Leroy Calhoun, and together they start connecting the dots between the killer’s mysterious clues.

There’s more of that summary on IMDb, but that’s all you need before they give the whole movie away.  We’ve got Cowboy Jeffrey Combs which is Jeffrey Combs classic plus mustache.  After him in the credits was Michael Berryman and I started to lose hope.  However, I was wrong.  He’s not terrible in this.  In fact, I’m overall positive on this.  Brutal is a bad title for this though.  That goes double for the cover art.  While some of the gore effects are excessive, this is primarily a murder mystery and I think the title may chase off people that might be interested.

Come back tomorrow as I reach the half way point.  In the meantime, listen to Motion Picture Meltdown’s episodes on Re-Animator and The Frighteners for more Jeffrey Combs talk.
