Halloween Disc-A-Day 2017: Day 17 – Infested

Continuing from last year, this project is an attempt to help me get dvds that for one reason or another I’ve never seen off of my shelf and give them a watch.  Today I watched Infested.

IMDb: Infested (18 October 2002)
Horror tale of insects which eat their victims from the inside out.

Back on day 6 of this project, I made the comparison between Dead Mary and The Big Chill.  Somehow this movie is an even closer to it.  Maybe it’s something that I should be looking out for, because I don’t know how this could happen randomly.  Also it’s basically killer flies again.  The synopsis left out that the flies control their victims.  That’s a step further than eating.  There is a lot in this movie that just does not make sense to me.  It has some recognizable talent in it like Zach Galligan and the pink Power Ranger, Amy Jo Johnson.  She has a shower scene, but unfortunately her pinkest parts weren’t shown.  It’s ok for me to make that joke.  No one’s reading these.  The soundtrack strikes me as odd too.  There’s actual licensed music in this.  Eddie Money got a payday out of this.  None of that would be out of place in a normal movie, but I don’t understand why they would go to the expense when the effects are so bad.  Really just awful CGI.  I’m really not surprised that this is the director Josh Olson’s only feature.  He’s primarily a writer and has some good credits under his belt, but this looks like a situation where they didn’t plan properly thinking that CGI could fix it in post.  I wasn’t bored during this, but I can’t recommend it.

Check back tomorrow for another review.  In the meantime, listen to Motion Picture Meltdown talk about more Zach Galligan in the Waxwork movies.
