For a third year, I’m going to be watching at least one horror DVD per day and writing a short review about them. I’ve acquired a new batch that I haven’t previously seen, so without any further delay. Let’s get to work.
Since 2012 reports of strange sounds coming from the sky have flooded social media, now Adam, a recluse, struggling with his own demons, believes whatever is causing them has followed him home.
This is another of these movies that goes into the “not what I expected” pile. It’s not so much a take on of a phenomena like the synopsis or back of the box may lead you to believe and more of a man in tighty-whiteys hears a loud noise. I’m kidding (kind of). That’s only the first hour. From there it gets more into the psychological angle of the story. The movie isn’t listed as horror on IMDB, but it easily fits within the genre. It uses so many horror movie techniques including a few jump scare moments. I think it’s listed as a thriller due to it having higher aspirations than your typical horror. I was also disappointed when it decided to fully commit to the ending. It spells it out directly and it seems like some ambiguity could have put it in a more satisfying place. Overall this is the odd case where I think to movie is fine for the most part, but I didn’t particularly enjoy it enough to recommend it to anyone. It’s the type of movie I’d see at a horror film festival with one other person in the room and that person doesn’t understand it.
I’ll be back in my tighty-whiteys tomorrow to watch and review whatever’s next in this stack of DVDs. In the meantime, check out the Motion Picture Meltdown episode on Drive Angry and Independence Day: Resurgence. It has nothing to do with this movie. I just like it.
