Halloween Disc-A-Day: Day 15 – Lost Tribe

For a third year, I’m going to be watching at least one horror DVD per day and writing a short review about them. I’ve acquired a new batch that I haven’t previously seen, so without any further delay. Let’s get to work.

The Lost Tribe (May 2010)

After a devastating boat crash, a group of friends are stranded on an uncharted island where they encounter an ancient tribe of humanoid creatures.

I want to start off by sharing a review unique to my copy of the movie.

This was another box that was taped shut.  At least it was the same movie as the cover this time.  As for that review itself, I could see how you might think that if you’d never seen Predator.  That’s the majority of the movie.  Just add a dash of holy hitman for the sole purpose of giving Lance Henriksen a cameo and there you go.  There are whole scenes that are directly lifted.  It’s all the hits like “There’s something out there” or seeing their shimmering outline in the trees.  I was particularly amused by their version of Arnold masking his body temperature with mud.  They used what I like to call snotberries.  I think they were seeing via smell.  If it wasn’t smell related, I don’t know why only the berries would work.  They also have selective hearing where sometimes they are set off by the slightest sound while others she standing directly in front of them panting but not detected.  Even a bad Predator movie is better than a lot of horror movies.

If you want to here us talk about some official Predator movies, listen to Motion Picture Meltdown’s episodes on the first two Predator movies and the spin-off series of Alien Vs. Predator movies.
