Halloween Disc-A-Day: Day 20 – The Dead Inside

For a third year, I’m going to be watching at least one horror DVD per day and writing a short review about them. I’ve acquired a new batch that I haven’t previously seen, so without any further delay. Let’s get to work.

The Dead Inside (20 July 2011)

While a young couple, a photographer and a horror writer, have run out of creative inspiration, suddenly their life changes when the girl becomes plagued by mysterious forces.

This is a musical, a fact that would have prevented me from buy it in the first place.  It’s not a genre that I have any affinity towards.  Having said that, it’s not too bad.  I wasn’t irritated by the music and the two characters in the movie are likeable enough.  I’m not a fan of the tonal shift that the movie goes through as it devolves from light and quirky to just plain depressing.  It seems overly harsh given the set up and comes across more like a Tales from the Crypt twist ending.  Strange side note: the audio defaulted to a track that didn’t include dialogue and I had to manually change it in the options.  I’ve never seen that before.

I have a lot more lined up for the last third of the month and if you want to hear some more, Motion Picture Meltdown has an episode about horror musicals.
